Club History
The Far West Sun Club was first formed back in the early part of 1972. Although, it is believed that there was a small group before this date. We have taken the start date from when the first minutes appear in the club committee minutes book. We have had many different venues over the years, including Southleigh Manor, Polkyth leisure centre, Barrowfields Hotel, Penventon Hotel, and at many homes of various members. There were also camping facilities within the membership too. The early days of the annual dinner dance was held at St Brannocks in Newquay.
During 2012 we celebrated our 40th Anniversary at our main venue, the Penventon Hotel in Redruth. One of our newest members had made a new club flag for use during our camping weekends.
The Far West, like many other clubs has gone through its bad times as well as good. We have, over recent years, survived some very difficult times, along with most clubs due to the recession. We have, however, come out the other side a very strong club, with a good membership, and an excellent committee that works very well together.
During the years that have followed, we have grown from strength to strength. Many new members, and extra events taking place at local facilities. Many good suggestions have been put forward for a variety of events, so keep an eye out for these on our website from time to time.
